1. Overview
Reverse Diary is a guided journaling and personal reflection application. We designed the app so that journal content and most structured reflection features remain on your device by default. Cloud-powered features are optional and are explained below.
This policy describes what information Reverse Diary handles, why it is handled, who may process it on our behalf, and the choices available to you.
2. Information we handle
Journal and reflection content
Your written answers, selected photos, voice input, mood selections, goals, and locally derived reflection memories are stored on your device by default. Structured features such as Habits and habit completions, Coach intentions, Time Capsules, local Reports and Insights derivations, Future Me, and the source data used to prepare Wrapped are also kept locally unless a feature below explicitly requires cloud processing or you choose to share content yourself. Device backups may include app data according to your operating system and backup settings.
Sharing you initiate
When you explicitly use the Wrapped sharing feature, Reverse Diary creates a privacy-limited share image on your device and opens the iOS share sheet. The app does not automatically publish that image. Any service or person you choose in the share sheet may receive the image under that recipient’s own terms and privacy practices.
Anonymous account and profile metadata
The app may create an anonymous Supabase account without requiring a traditional email registration. Supabase assigns a pseudonymous user identifier to that account. When the session is created, Reverse Diary may also send the preferred name you entered during onboarding, your app language, and your timezone so supported features can operate in the right context. The anonymous identifier is not presented as, and is not intended to reveal, your real-world identity.
Subscription information
Apple processes payments. We receive limited purchase information through RevenueCat, such as product identifier, subscription status, entitlement status, transaction environment, and an app-specific customer identifier. We do not receive your full payment card details.
Technical information
Our service providers may process limited diagnostics required to operate, secure, and troubleshoot their services, such as timestamps, request status, device or app version, and error information. Reverse Diary does not send journal entries, written answers, mood selections, photos, audio, habit titles, habit completions, Coach intentions, or Time Capsule content to advertising services.
Advertising measurement and attribution
Where applicable on iOS, Meta advertising measurement is initialized only after you grant permission through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. If permission is granted, Meta may receive permitted device, advertising, or attribution identifiers and an app-activation event so advertising performance can be measured. Reverse Diary may also provide Meta’s anonymous attribution identifier and permitted device identifiers to RevenueCat to connect subscription outcomes with attribution. If permission is denied or has not been granted, Reverse Diary does not initialize Meta attribution. Journal text, reflection answers, mood selections, photos, audio, habits, intentions, Time Capsules, and AI prompts or results are not included in these attribution events.
3. Optional AI analysis
Reverse Diary can work without AI. If you enable Revi AI, two supported cloud-assisted flows may use OpenAI through our Supabase Edge Functions: aggregate Revi World analysis and optional question candidates.
For aggregate Revi World analysis, completing a reflection or synchronizing Revi World may send the dates, mood labels, questions, and written answers from up to your 30 most recent completed reflections through our Supabase Edge Function to OpenAI. This can happen automatically as part of the enabled Revi World synchronization; you do not need to press a separate analysis button each time.
For AI question candidates, the only raw user-written text sent is your current answer. The request may also include minimized structured context needed to keep the next question relevant, such as the active language, question role, broad mood and intensity information, writing-depth preference, recent question fingerprints, and compact current-session evidence such as supported themes, anchors, signals, timing/sequence/repetition context, and whether earlier turns in the same reflection were meaningful. Earlier raw answers from the current session, raw answers from previous days, habit data, Coach intentions, Time Capsule content, photos, audio, preferred name, email, account ID, subscription status, device or advertising identifiers, and exact timestamps are not sent for question generation.
Question candidates are validated against local safety and grounding rules before use. A candidate that is slow, unavailable, changes language unexpectedly, introduces unsupported assumptions, or fails validation is replaced by a deterministic on-device question. Tentative reflective connections are not stored as hidden psychological profiles, diagnoses, personality labels, or mental-health scores.
Photos, audio recordings, and their local file addresses are not sent for AI analysis. OpenAI requests are configured with storage disabled. The generated aggregate Revi World analysis and a cache fingerprint may be stored in Supabase under your anonymous account so the same analysis can be reused, and are deleted when that account is deleted, subject to service providers’ legal obligations. Question candidates are not stored by Reverse Diary on the server.
You can turn Revi AI off at any time. The app then uses deterministic on-device questions and world analysis and makes no new AI question request. AI output may be incomplete or inaccurate. Reverse Diary uses AI for personal reflection support, not for medical advice, diagnosis, therapy, psychological profiling, or crisis support.
4. Service providers
- Apple: app distribution, in-app purchases, subscription management, device services, the system share sheet, and the App Tracking Transparency permission flow.
- Supabase: anonymous authentication, database functions, account deletion, and secure server-side processing for supported cloud features.
- RevenueCat: subscription entitlement and purchase-status management and, after applicable ATT consent, limited attribution association.
- Meta: advertising attribution and measurement only where applicable after ATT consent.
- OpenAI: generation of optional aggregate Revi World analysis and structured-context question candidates while Revi AI is enabled.
- Vercel: hosting for this website; standard server logs may be processed to serve and secure the site.
These providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments. We share only what is reasonably necessary for the relevant service.
5. Storage and retention
Local journal content and structured local features—including application-owned journal photos and audio recordings, Habits, Coach intentions, Time Capsules, ReflectionMemory-derived data, Future Me inputs, and local Reports/Insights data—remain on your device until you delete them through available app controls, delete your account, remove the app, erase the device, or restore a different backup. Wrapped output is generated from local structured data and is not sent anywhere unless you explicitly choose to share it.
Supabase may store the aggregate AI world analysis and cache fingerprint associated with your anonymous account. Purchase records may be retained by Apple and RevenueCat for transaction and compliance purposes.
When you delete your Reverse Diary account, the app removes its local journal records and application-owned journal media, clears locally stored app state used by features such as Habits, intentions and Time Capsules, requests deletion of the Supabase account and associated cloud data, and requests deletion of the linked RevenueCat customer record where configured. Deleting your app account does not cancel an Apple subscription and does not control records Apple or another provider must retain for legal obligations.
6. Your choices and rights
- Keep AI features disabled and use deterministic on-device reflection flows.
- Choose whether to create or remove Habits, intentions, Time Capsules, photos, audio, and other optional local content.
- Choose whether to share a Wrapped image; nothing is published automatically.
- Choose whether to add photos or use microphone access; permissions are requested only when needed.
- Allow or deny App Tracking Transparency permission; Meta attribution is not initialized without permission.
- Delete individual local content through app features where available.
- Delete your account in Settings or use our account deletion instructions.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings.
- Contact us to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection where applicable under local law.
To withdraw consent for optional processing, disable the relevant feature and contact us if you also want existing eligible cloud data deleted. You can also review tracking permission later in iOS Settings.
7. Security and international processing
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted network connections and restricted server-side credentials. No system can guarantee absolute security. Service providers may process information in countries other than your own, subject to applicable safeguards and their contractual commitments.
8. Children
Reverse Diary is not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable age. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product or legal requirements change. We will update the date above and provide additional notice in the app when a change materially affects your choices.
